How to Plant Running Bamboo on Your Property

If you are interested in planting bamboo plants on your property, you may want to know a little bit about how to plant it before going to your local bamboo nursery for plants. Running bamboo is the type of bamboo that will spread around, so make sure this is the type of plant you want before buying.
Planting running bamboo is a bit challenging, but you should be able to do it without professional assistance. Before you even start, it is important to check the pH of your soil. Bamboo needs a pH of about 5.5 to 6.5. If your soil is not at that pH, you will need to use lime or peat moss to get it there. You also need to make sure that the soil is aerated a bit.
Your next step is to begin digging holes for the bamboo rhizomes. The size of the hole should be about 15 centimetres deeper than the size of the container they came in from the bamboo nursery. The holes should also be double the width and placed at least a metre apart from each other. Take the bamboo rhizomes from their containers and place one rhizome in each hole. Fill the holes and pat them gently in order to remove air pockets. When all are planted, water the area immediately.
If you want to stop the bamboo plants from running, at this point you can dig a trench and install a polyethylene bamboo barrier. Bamboo grows very quickly, so you should soon see your beautiful bamboo growing sky high.
